Salih Özcan and Turkey secured their place in next summer’s European Championship on Sunday, but the hopes of Julian Ryerson and Norway now precariously hang in the balance.

Two Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective national teams on Sunday evening. Salih Özcan played from the start as Turkey cruised to a 4-0 win over Latvia and secured their qualification for Euro 2024.

A brace from Cenk Tosun and goals from Yunus Akgün and Kerem Aktürkoğlu gave Turkey a comfortable win and helped them take their tally for the qualifiers to 16 points. And they are now sure to make the trip to Germany next summer.

Salih Özcan was afforded a breather after 68 minutes, with Berkan Kutlu coming on to replace him.

BVB right-back Julian Ryerson played from the start for Norway, but could not prevent them from suffering a 1-0 defeat to Spain. Gavi scored the only goal of the game, helping Spain qualify for Euro 2024 at Norway’s expense.

Erling Haaland and co. must now make the qualifying play-offs if they are to have any chance of playing at Euro 2024. In order to do so, they must finish third in their qualifying group and hope that Serbia qualify directly from Group G.

Switzerland were also in action on Sunday, as they came from two goals behind to rescue a 3-3 draw against Belarus. Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was an unused substitute. Switzerland are currently second in their qualifying group, and will hope to secure their place in the European Championship during next month’s international break.
