Marcel Sabitzer netted the winning goal as Austria defeated Azerbaijan on Monday evening to secure their place in next summer’s European Championship.

Austria will make the short trip to Germany for the European Championship next summer after securing qualification with a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan on Monday. Marcel Sabitzer came off the bench at half-time and scored the winning goal from the penalty spot to seal the win for his side.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder won the penalty for Austria after his free-kick was handled inside the box. He then stepped up and scored from the spot for the second game running.

Marcel Sabitzer has enjoyed a strong return from his adductor injury with Austria. And he will now hope to make his Borussia Dortmund comeback on Friday in the Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen.

Donyell Malen and the Netherlands boosted their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 on Monday with a 1-0 win over Greece. Virgil van Dijk scored from the spot in the 93rd minute to secure the win for the Netherlands. The BVB forward came on at half-time for his side.

Ramy Bensebaini played 90 minutes as Algeria played out a 1-1 draw in their friendly match against Egypt. Islam Slimani came off the bench and scored a 93rd minute equaliser for Algeria after Hamdi Fathi had given Egypt the lead.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens made his first start for the England U-21s, but could not prevent them from suffering a 3-2 defeat to Ukraine in the Euro U-21 qualifiers. The highly rated BVB winger was taken off in the 58th minute, with England 2-0 behind.
