Emre Can

Emre Can has started the majority of the games so far this season, but his performances have certainly not been up to par. He was named club captain before the start of the season, which gave him a new status in the squad and also a contract extension. But things have not gone according to plan for him so far as he has not only been outplayed by Salih Özcan, but has also lost his place in the Germany squad.

The team captain should be an unquestionable figure on and off the pitch, but that does not seem to be the case with Can at the moment.

Karim Adeyemi

Karim Adeyemi looked like a superstar in the making during his first season at the Signal Iduna Park. After a tough start, he showcased his speed and skills, and the stage seemed to be set for a breakout season this year.

However, he has still to hit the heights he managed towards the end of last season. He has been limited to a minimal impact and has also lost his place in the starting XI. There is still time for him to bounce back, but for now, he finds himself in a precarious position.

Sébastien Haller

Following his recovery from cancer, Sébastien Haller had a strong debut season at Borussia Dortmund. There was enough evidence that he could be a top striker in the Bundesliga. But, after a rough start to the season, the Ivory Coast striker has lost his spot in the team to Niclas Füllkrug. He will still get his chances, but may find it difficult to become a regular starter again at BVB.

Youssoufa Moukoko

Youssoufa Moukoko was in fantastic form towards the end of last year. After scoring important goals in big matches like the Revierderby, the talented young striker won a place in the Germany squad for the World Cup and signed a big-money contract extension with BVB.

But things have not gone according to plan since his extension, and Moukoko has found it very difficult to get into the starting XI. Following Füllkrug’s arrival, the 18 year old finds himself in third place in the pecking order for strikers.

It is uncertain if Moukoko will eventually get more opportunities to play, which is a dagger to the heart of the fans who hopefully expected a breakout season from the young academy star.
