A crunch away game awaits Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as they take on Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund will hope to get their first win of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage as they face Newcastle United on Wednesday. The Black and Yellows certainly do not have the best of recent records away from home in the Champions League. But after their poor start to the group stage, Wednesday’s game will almost be a must-win one for them.

Despite their Champions League woes, Borussia Dortmund have won their last five matches in the Bundesliga. Edin Terzic is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that claimed a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday. Although one change will be needed with Julian Ryerson sidelined due to illness. Ramy Bensebaini will replace him in the team.

Borussia Dortmund will also be without Julien Duranville on Wednesday, while Youssoufa Moukoko is a doubt after picking up a thigh strain while on international duty. Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck are both one yellow card away from suspension.

Newcastle United handed Paris Saint-Germain a shock 4-1 defeat on matchday two to go top in Group F. They are enjoying a sublime run at the moment, and claimed a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in the English Premier League this past weekend.

Alexander Isak has been in fine form since making the big-money move to Newcastle United, and will be determined to make an impact against his former club. Miguel Almirón and Anthony Gordon could partner him in the Newcastle attack. Sven Botman and Harvey Barnes are currently sidelined with their respective injuries.
