Edin Terzić: Borussia Dortmund will have to “earn a win” against Newcastle
Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić expressed that his team will have to work hard for a win against Newcastle in the pre-match press conference for their Champions League clash.
Borussia Dortmund are set to face Newcastle in the Champions League this Wednesday, and head coach Edin Terzić has warned that the club will need to “earn a win” if they expect to leave Newcastle with all three points at the end of the night. Terzić’s words show a healthy level of respect for Dortmund’s opponents, who emphatically beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in their last Champions League fixture:
"“Newcastle is doing really well. They’ve made smart transfers and have been building this team for a year and a half. They’re first in the group. We have to show a good performance tomorrow and earn a win.”"
Dortmund’s game against Newcastle, like the rest of the club’s remaining fixtures in the competition, are must-win games if they expect to advance to the knockout stages. As Terzić notes, Newcastle are in a rich vein of form, and it’s something that Dortmund will have to be wary of.
The club are set to reunite with former striker Alexander Isak, who never really got off the mark for the German side. Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl expressed how impressed he is with the player’s development in a recent interview, and he will certainly be a player Terzić focuses on in his plans for the upcoming game.
During the press conference, Terzić also discussed Marcel Sabitzer and his form leading into the clash, with the Austrian international seemingly showing that he is ready for more minutes in last week’s clash against Werder Bremen, where he made his return post-injury. Terzić was not keen on giving away any line-up information prior to tomorrows game, however:
"“Marcel came in very well in the last game and showed that he is ready for more. But of course I will tell my team first what the lineup will look like tomorrow.”"
Sabitzer’s return will be a welcome one for Dortmund, as it will mean that the club have a fully healthy midfield once again. This, coupled with the return of Gio Reyna means Dortmund will have a deep squad at their disposal, increasing their chances of taking a positive result home with them.
