Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 1-0 win over Newcastle United
By Tushar Bahl
Marco Reus (6/10)
Marco Reus toiled hard for his side and put in a solid shift. He had a number of encouraging moments in the final third and also helped set up the winning goal. But his most important contributions came in the defensive half.
Donyell Malen (7/10)
Donyell Malen had a string of chances in the first-half and should have given Borussia Dortmund the lead early on. He looked lively at the start and caused Newcastle a lot of problems with his direct runs out wide. The Dutchman did his job to great effect before coming off in the second-half.
Niclas Füllkrug (5/10)
It was a difficult evening for Niclas Füllkrug, who wasn’t able to get involved in the game as much as he would have liked. He still had a glorious chance on the rebound in the first-half and should have made more of it.
Salih Özcan (7/10)
The atmosphere of the game was tailor-made for Salih Özcan, who came on and worked very hard for the team. He was up for the fight in midfield and did a good job of marshalling the BVB defence.
Karim Adeyemi, Gio Reyna, Sebastien Haller, Niklas Süle (N/R)
Karim Adeyemi got into some really good positions on the counter-attack, but the most impressive part of his game was the way he contributed so well defensively. Gio Reyna, Sebastien Haller and Niklas Süle also helped BVB see out the win.
