Borussia Dortmund are set to go head to head with Bayern Munich for the signature of Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea in January.

Bolstering their defensive depth is likely to be the priority for Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window. And according to BILD, the Black and Yellows have set their sights on Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. The 24 year old is apparently free to leave the Premier League club, and BVB would like to sign him on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Chalobah is primarily a centre-back, but is also capable of playing in defensive midfield and at full-back. Borussia Dortmund only have three first-team centre-backs in their ranks at the moment, and the full-back positions are also very much in need of more depth.

Bayern Munich were keen on signing Chalobah towards the end of the summer transfer window, but the move fell through in the end. It remains to be seen if the Bavarians will renew their interest in the Chelsea defender.

The likes of Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, and AS Roma have also been linked with a move for Trevoh Chalobah, who is expected to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window even though he has more than four years left on his current contract.

Chalobah has yet to make a first-team appearance this season and is currently sidelined with a thigh injury. The English club revealed earlier this month that he has suffered a setback in his bid to return to full fitness.
