Borussia Dortmund will discover their DFB-Pokal round of 16 opponents on Sunday, with the tie set to take place on December 5-6, 2023.

It has been a season of DFB-Pokal like no other, and more teams from the second division (eight) have qualified for the round of 16 than teams from the Bundesliga (six). Reigning champions RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich were both dumped out of the competition in the second round, with Thomas Tuchel’s side suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to third division side 1. FC Saarbrücken.

The likes of SC Freiburg and Union Berlin were also eliminated from the DFB-Pokal this week, while Regionalliga club FC 08 Homburg continued their stunning run with a 2-1 win over second division side SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

Borussia Dortmund qualified for the round of 16 with a 1-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim on Wednesday, and will be eager to lift the DFB-Pokal trophy this season for the first time since 2021. Although they will have to be vary of the challenges that lie ahead, as the second round showed once again that anything can happen in this competition.

The draw for the third round of the DFB-Pokal will take place on Sunday, and will start at around 3:45 pm CET. Below are the 16 teams that have qualified for the DFB-Pokal round of 16.

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Mönchengladbach

2. Bundesliga: FC St. Pauli, Hamburger SV, Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, SC Paderborn, 1. FC Magdeburg, Hertha BSC, 1. FC Nuremberg

3. Liga: 1. FC Saarbrücken

Regionalliga: FC 08 Homburg

The DFB-Pokal round of 16 matches will be played on December 5-6, 2023. The quarterfinals are scheduled to take place on January 30-31, 2024. The two semifinal matches will be held on April 2-3, with the final set for 25 May, 2024 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
