Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-0 win over Newcastle United
By Tushar Bahl
Niklas Süle (6/10)
Coming in at right-back, Süle put in a fairly solid shift and did no harm to his hopes of earning a regular starting spot at Borussia Dortmund. He kept Joelinton at bay for the most part but didn’t really offer much in attack.
Mats Hummels (7/10)
Hummels put in another commanding shift in defence, showing why he is still the man for the big occasions (well, for the most part). The centre-back made several vital tackles for his side, and did his part in ensuring that Kobel did not have much work to do in goal.
Nico Schlotterbeck (7/10)
After his careless display against Bayern, Schlotterbeck was more active and aggressive both on and off the ball. He took a number of calculated risks to venture forward in the first-half, and helped keep the Newcastle attackers at bay for the majority of the game.
Julian Ryerson (6/10)
Ryerson was full of energy and did his job with minimal fuss, as he so often does. The Norwegian international wasn’t able to add any attacking impetus, but still made some encouraging runs.
