Sebastian Kehl was delighted with the way Borussia Dortmund responded to their defeat to Bayern Munich by claiming a well deserved 2-0 win over Newcastle United.
Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a return to winning ways on Tuesday evening as they beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Black and Yellows managed to put the 4-0 thrashing they received against Bayern Munich last weekend in their rearview mirror, with goals from Julian Brandt and Niclas Füllkrug helping them seal a crucial win against the Premier League side.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl was pleased with the response he saw from the players on Tuesday. The 43 year old added that the win against Newcastle United was the right statement after Saturday’s devastating defeat.
"“That was the right response,” Kehl told Amazon Prime Video after the game. “We accepted the criticism from Saturday and delivered a really good performance. It was a deserved win and a big step forward. You can see what this team is capable of – even in this group. We have made a really good statement with two wins against Newcastle.”"
Borussia Dortmund’s win over Newcastle United helped them take over top spot in the fiercely contested Group F in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite their cushion in the so called ‘group of death,’ Sebastian Kehl was quick to point out that a place in the round of 16 is far from secured. “It’s in our own hands now and we want to make sure we don’t let it get away from us,” Kehl said.
Next up for Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League will be a trip to Italy to take on AC Milan, who claimed a come from behind 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
