Borussia Dortmund showcased their defensive prowess once again in the UEFA Champions League as they delivered a mature performance to overcome the challenge of AC Milan.

Written off by many after matchday two, Borussia Dortmund became the first team to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds from Group F on Tuesday evening. The Black and Yellows dispatched AC Milan 3-1, with goals from Marco Reus, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi securing an excellent away win.

This game was the perfect showcase of the “not sexy, but success-oriented football” Edin Terzic wants to see from his players. While AC Milan enjoyed more of the ball and led in the majority of the attacking stats, Borussia Dortmund always kept their defensive rhythm and came out on top in the most important stat in the end.

BVB were also clinical on the counter-attack and fully deserved their win. Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 win over AC Milan.

Gregor Kobel (8/10)

Kobel did brilliantly to save Giroud’s penalty early on. He wasn’t tested as much after that, with those in front of doing an excellent job of keeping Milan at bay. But he stepped up whenever called upon.
