Borussia Dortmund announced the transfer of forward Fabio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday. Silva arrived on Thursday, underwent his medical and passed before signing his contract. The Athletic reported earlier this week that the transfer was around €26.5 million.

BVB’s sporting director Lars Ricken said in an official statement that the club’s main goal for the summer was to improve the attack. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl described Silva as an “exceptional talent” who will bring a lot of good qualities to the squad. The Black and Yellows sold Jamie Gittens and Gio Reyna to Chelsea and Borussia Monchengladbach, respectively, during this transfer window.

"Fabio Silva was already considered an exceptional talent at a very young age, has gained important experience in recent seasons, has matured both as a footballer and as a person, and yet is still a young player with potential for development. Fabio brings a lot of quality: goal threat, intensity, pace, and he can be deployed flexibly in several positions. All of this, along with the fact that he is a success-driven, hard-working striker, makes this transfer very valuable to us."

Silva began his career at Porto, making his pro debut during the 2019-20 season. He made 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals for the Portuguese club. Wolves then paid €40 million for him the following season, making 54 league appearances and netting four goals. He spent time at Anderlecht, PSV, Rangers and Las Palmas on loan for the past three seasons.

The 23-year-old is coming off his best season in Spain, scoring 10 goals and dishing three assists in 24 La Liga appearances. Italian clubs Roma and AC Milan reportedly had interest before Dortmund secured Silva’s signature, as per GOAL.com.

Silva is the fourth player to arrive at BVB this transfer window, joining Jobe Bellingham, Patrick Drewes, Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino. He could make his debut on Sunday against Union Berlin.
