Borussia Dortmund have recently begun the search for a new striker. No, not to replace Serhou Guirassy, but instead as a backup to the 29-year-old Guinean International. With the increased fixtures in the Club World Cup, new UEFA Champions League Format, and hopes of a longer domestic cup campaign, it could be asking a lot of Guirassy’s legs to play 90-minutes every 3-4 days. If he gets injured, then there’s still Karim Adeyemi and Maxi Beier, but both players have been used by Niko Kovač as wingers in addition to strikers. Those players are highly versatile, but BVB wants another traditional number nine.
German tabloid, Sport Bild are reporting that BVB has turned their sights to Fabio Silva, the Portugal International who has been on the Wolverhampton Wanderers books since 2020. It seems clear that the player doesn’t have a future with the Wolves, as he’s gone out on four consecutive loan spells from the club.
Now, it appears Silva is ready to find a club where he can remain and integrate on a permanent basis and Borussia Dortmund could be that home. Silva’s experience at so many clubs at such a young age makes him very experienced in learning new systems and working with new teammates and coaches, so he could integrate in Dortmund squad quickly.
Silva’s most recent loan was to Spanish side, Las Palmas, where he scored 10 in 23 appearances, which wasn’t enough for the island club to avoid relegation. At just 22, Silva has a high potential and is looking for Champions League football, but the Wolves can’t expect to recoup the 40-million they paid for him five years ago. His value now sits around 20-million, according to Transfermarkt.
