Jamie Gittens was one of Borussia Dortmund’s more prolific attacking players at the beginning of this season, and in many of Nuri Sahin’s matches, Gittens was the only player to perform. With his English roots, and young age of just 20, it was always going to be a matter of time before English Premier League Teams started calling for him.
With his electric technical ability, and precision goals from cutting into the box, BVB set an initial price tag on his head of 85-million euros. Unfortunately, Jamie Gittens development has stalled since Niko Kovač’s appointment. While the squad has stabilized and now has a decent shot at UEFA Champions League qualification, Jamie Gittens’s performances have been poor for the most part, and he’s seen his role in the squad diminish.
Now, The Athletic is reporting that Borussia Dortmund has lowered their expectations and will now accept an offer between 50-60 million euros for Jamie Gittens, and it doesn’t seem like the player is going to improve like what we saw in the first half of the season. Gittens seems to be checked out of BVB as both Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in his signature.
Gittens has 12 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season but most of those goal contributions came under Nuri Sahin. Gittens last goal in Black and Yellow was in the 4-1 win over Freiburg, and that remains his only goal contribution since Niko Kovač’s appointment. Only time will tell how expensive a transfer Gittens is, but his departure this summer is all but certain.
