Borussia Dortmund suffered another Bundesliga defeat away from the Signal Iduna Park after a wearying first-half performance. After conceding three goals to the homeowners, the Black-and-Yellows even rehearsed a comeback attempt, pulling back 3-2. However, a late goal on a keeperless counter killed the match and ended Dortmund's fairytale story.

Kiel's 4-2 win was the perfect portrait of who should have been the match-winner. Despite BVB's apparent more dominant first half, Holstein Kiel looked very dangerous in transitions, and a mistake from Brandt gave them the opportunity to open the scoreboard.

Following the first goal, Borussia Dortmund seemed lost, and the goal difference only stretched from that point on. In the second half, Sahin changed the system to a back-3 and gave the forwards more freedom to surround Kiel's box. Still, Dortmund looked unorganized, and even BVB's scores felt more accidental than structured or intentional.

Borussia Dortmund will now face Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday in another tough away match. The Black-and-Yellows will need to bounce back to prove they come back to winning habits, but beating Frankfurt will be no easy task. Until then, here are the player ratings for Borussia Dortmund player ratings from the 4-2 loss at Holstein Kiel.
