Following a loan move from Denmark side FC Nordsjælland, 23-year-old left-back Daniel Svensson has been putting on solid performances for Borussia Dortmund. Because of this, reports suggest that The Swede will permanently sign for the Black and Yellows.  According to BILD,  BVB are working on signing Svensson for a total package of 7.5 million euros, which includes both the loan and transfer sum.

The report has also indicated that the Dortmund bosses have been impressed by Svensson, and the fact that he started the last 5 league games was a testament to that. Even though he will not be able to play the matches that trigger the obligation for permanent signing due to the ankle injury he sustained in March, the club has chosen to go ahead and seal the deal.

After joining Dortmund, Svensson took no time to make an impact. In his first Champions League game against Sporting CP, he received widespread plaudits for his energy and work rate. The performance was a sign of BVB finally finding the right man for the role.

The Black and Yellows have struggled to replace Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro after he left for Bayern Munich in 2023. Last season, Ian Maatsen was brought in on loan from Chelsea and played a huge role as the club reached the Champions League final, but he wasn’t signed permanently.

Yan Couto, who joined on loan from Manchester City in the summer, failed to make an impression in the Hinrunde. The other player in the squad capable of playing at left was Ramy Bensebaini, but the Algerian has been on a downward slope in recent years. This has forced the club to make a decision and move for Svensson.

As Dortmund pushed for a Champions League qualification in the league, Svensson’s role has been immense. The Swedish left-back has played 90 minutes in the crucial wins against Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim, and Borussia Mönchengladbach in recent weeks.
