Borussia Dortmund have yet to win an away game this Bundesliga season as the Black and Yellows were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Although the team has improved in some aspects during these last few matches, Nuri Sahin and the players still fail to fully convince the fanbase. This match against Die Fohlen is another example of a sequence of wasted opportunities to climb up the standings.

Despite controlling possession (60%) and creating more chances (16 total shots), Borussia Dortmund could not capitalize on their domain, especially struggling in the final third. With Julian Brandt out due to injury, Sahin preferred to maintain the same midfield that drew against Bayern Munich last week. The trio of Nmecha, Sabitzer, and Gross succeeded in circulating the ball effectively, but in terms of creativity, there was a vacancy that they weren't able to fill.

The star was once again the young Englishman Jamie Gittens, who scored a screamer after dribbling past two Glabach defenders and opening the scoring in the second-half. The home side, however, did not take long to equalise, as a VAR penalty provided Stöger with the chance to make it 1-1. BVB still finished the match with an extra man following Tomáš Čvančara's silly yellow-red. But there was no winner at the Borussia-Park.

Despite some controversies and a heated atmosphere, Dortmund could and should have won this match, especially considering some clear missed chances. Even though BVB took one point home, the wait goes on for the team's first away win in the league since April.

Here are some takeaways from Borussia Dortmund's 1-1 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
