Safe to say that Emre Can has lost his midfield spot to Felix Nmecha

Following his two-game suspension spell for his direct red card against Mainz 05, Emre Can watched the majority of the Gladbach match from the bench as Felix Nmecha was the selected pivot option. There has been constant criticism from the BVB fanbase towards the club captain. With Can's suspension, Nmecha had the chance to prove himself worthy of the starting spot, and he has likely done it.

The number six role is one of the most critical positions in football nowadays, with Rodri claiming the Ballon d'Or for his performances at Man City. Responsible for dictating the actions in the most pivotal area of the pitch, the number six seems to suit Felix Nmecha like a glove. His ball control and press resistance are his best assets, earning him compliments in the campaign.

The former Wolfsburg man had previously shown that he had the potential to play regular minutes and, eventually, surpass the current captain in the packing order. Even if this takeaway ages poorly, it might be safe to say that Felix is the new starting six for BVB, with Sahin choosing him over a now-available Emre Can.

Can was did come on late in the game as a centre-back for the injured Niklas Süle, and may well be asked to fill in for him against on Wednesday against FC Barcelona.
