As reported by Patrick Berger, an Opta computer was used to calculate Borussia Dortmund’s probability of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, and the results were a measly 6.5%
That’s right, according to Opta stats, Dortmund only have a 6.5% chance of making it to the Champions League next season. They need to overcome a seven-point gap to qualify through league placement, or win this season’s UEFA Champions League. I don’t think the later is going to happen.
It’s been a dramatic fall from grace for last season’s UEFA Champion’s League runners-up, who, two season’s later, may not be competing in the competition at all. But all hope isn’t lost. Borussia Dortmund has a new manager, and there are still twelve remaining league matches. If the Black and Yellows can start winning, then there’s still a chance. 6.5% is much higher than zero.
