Could Roger Schmidt be a candidate if Borussia Dortmund part ways with Nuri Sahin?

With Borussia Dortmund struggling under Nuri Sahin, the name of Roger Schmidt is once again being linked with the head coach job.
Nuri Sahin retains the support of the Borussia Dortmund bosses for now, but that could change quickly if the performances and results do not improve in the coming weeks. The pressure is certainly piling on the 36 year old, who was only appointed BVB head coach following the departure of Edin Terzic in the summer.
Roger Schmidt a potential successor to Nuri Sahin?
Speculation about a possible successor has already started, with Sky Sport bringing up Roger Schmidt as a potential candidate for the head coach job. The report claims that while the BVB bosses are currently not thinking about Schmidt as an option, he has been considered as a candidate in the past.
It also adds that Schmidt, who is currently in the process of finalisation the terms of his dismissal with SL Benfica, would prefer to take on a new project next summer so he could also have a say in the squad planning process.
Schmidt's teams are known for adopting a high intensity approach and playing attack-minded football. The 57 year old has previously coached the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, PSV Eindhoven, and most recently SL Benfica.
Borussia Dortmund's heirarchy is unlikely to part ways with Nuri Sahin unless they feel that the situation has become untenable. With the former BVB midfielder under pressure, it is no surprise that other names are already starting to be linked with the head coach job.
Sahin will hope to turn things around at Borussia Dortmund, starting with this weekend's home game against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
