As reported by journalist Patrick Berger, Carney Chukwuemeka could stay in Borussia Dortmund after a few impressive cameos in the past couple of matches. According to Berger, the club ranks have already started considering making his loan move permanent in the summer.

The young English player has arrived in Dortmund during this winter transfer window, coming from Chelsea on a six-month loan move with the potential to become indefinite at the end of it. In case BVB aspires to retain Chukwuemeka, the Black-and-Yellows would have to pay the London club 35 million euros to trigger Carney's buy clause.

If it is up to the BVB manager Niko Kovač, who was directly involved in the loan, a permanent transfer would be a no-brainer as he is a big fan of the player, according to Berger. The Croatian coach also arrived in Dortmund in the winter as a solution to salvage BVB's season following the Nuri Sahin experiment going sideways.

Niko Kovač has had a good spell as a BVB manager so far, helping the Black-and-Yellows to reach the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and reigniting Borussia Dortmund's campaign in the league with two straight wins in the past two matches. As BVB looks closer to fighting for a spot in European competition, a strong finish in the Bundesliga would be key for Dortmund to keep Chukwuemeka. As reported by Berger, BVB would have to reach a European competition qualification spot at least to finance Carney's extension somehow.
