According to RNBVB, Felix Hirschnagl, former manager at TSV 1860 Münich II, is to become the new coach of Borussia Dortmund U19. Hirschnagl will be the substitute for Mike Tullberg, as the Dane is set to take over as the new Borussia Dortmund II team. The talks with Hirschnagl are in the final stages.
Hirschnagl was an Augsburg youth team manager before joining TSV 1860 Münich in 2019/2020. He was a youth and then a U17 manager before managing the second team. This season, he managed 32 matches, where he averaged 1.94 points per match and finished in 2nd place in the Oberliga.
Felix Hirschnagl will substitute Mike Tullberg, who, following a nice spell as an interim first-team manager, was promoted to the U23s. The Dane will take over for Jan Zimmermann, who was dismissed after the 2024/2025 campaign, which culminated in BVB II's relegation to the fourth tier of German Football.
Felix Hirschnagl will have a tough job ahead of him. He needs to revive a youth team that has had success in the past, but now it's struggling to make a transition for these talented young players to the professionals. He and Tullberg will need to indirectly work together in providing competitive squads in their respective categories, who can aspire for trophies in the pros as well.
Creating good habits from a young age is very important to molding character and, eventually, reproducing those habits in the future. That's the mission of the youth teams, and, hopefully, those winning aspirations can be seen in all levels of Dortmund's football.
