According to information from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the American attacking midfielder Gio Reyna could be on his way out of Signal Iduna Park by the end of the current season. Gio has been having a hard time impressing fans and gaining momentum, even with the new manager, Niko Kovač, providing his consecutive starts in the absence of a not-fully fit Julian Brandt.

Since his contract expires in June 2026, the Black-and-Yellows could seek a transfer for the American to get some profit out of their academy prospect before he can leave on a free transfer the following year. As reported by Plettenberg, Reyna has a vast market of interested parties, mainly from Spain, Italy, and France. The current valuation for the midfielder would be around 10 to 15 million euros.

Gio Reyna has always been an exciting prospect from the Dortmund academy, as it is impossible for fans to forget his screamer against Werder Bremen, which gave some hope for the American to thrive in Black-and-Yellow in the future. However, Gio has also found it very difficult to stay healthy, and even with some interesting cameos here and there, he was often unavailable for selection.

Now, even with more constant minutes, Gio Reyna has not justified an extension with Borussia Dortmund, who could be looking to move on from the 'Super Soldier' experiment for the right price with Reyna getting into his contract year. It would be a disappointing ending for such a fun prospect to follow, but football is often unpredictable, and not always a particular young player proves himself to be what the fans expect of him.
