Gregor Kobel comments on Borussia Dortmund future

The Swiss Shot-stopper didn’t quash any rumors of a potential departure.

Gregor Kobel, Borussia Dortmund’s number one between the sticks, has been a stalwart member of BVB’s starting XI for four seasons now. Although this has not been his strongest individual season, Kobel’s shot-stopping ability has been reinvigorated in the Black and Yellow’s late push for UEFA Champions League qualification. This feat wouldn’t have been achievable without Kobel’s heroics in recent games, mainly his eight saves against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Although Gregor Kobel has been linked with a move away from the club recently, many expect the Swiss keeper to stay in Dortmund, especially since he will have guaranteed UEFA Champions League minutes. But when asked about his future, especially in regard to playing for Dortmund next season, Kobel had this to say:

"I do not comment on such things at all. It was important to me that we were in the Champions League, because this club simply belongs in the Champions League. It is been a hell of a four years here. The Champions League final, almost champions, and this year it was a completely different season. It was definitely exciting, and you never got bored."
Gregor Kobel

Gregor Kobel has made 115 appearances for Borussia Dortmund since arriving from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2021. He’s been one of the club’s most consistent players during his time in Black and Yellow. Even with backup keeper Alex Meyer and returning loan keeper Daint Ramaj, the loss of Gregor Kobel would be a massive blow for Borussia Dortmund, and there are no clear links between BVB and other top-tier goalkeepers. I think selling Kobel could bring in some serious cash, but I question whether BVB is prepared to sign a new starting keeper.
