As reported by Bild, Borussia Dortmund's striker Serhou Guirassy sparked some heavy controversy on social media due to a Snapchat post. After the season was over and Champions League qualification was guaranteed for BVB, the Guinean striker posted a photo on his story during his time off with a song in the background.
However, what seemed to be an inoffensive social media vacation post became a source of controversy and criticism toward Guirassy. The reason behind the backlash is the song chosen by Serhou. The song "WW3" by Kanye West, released earlier this year, got the spotlight for the wrong reasons, as the rapper used Nazi-related slurs and terms in the lyrics.
Guirassy further deleted the post after tons of feedback from fans, as the club also contacted him regarding the post, according to WAZ. There will be consequences for Guirassy as of now regarding that Snapchat story.
However, I believe it was simply a misunderstanding. As Guirassy's English has never been his best suit, judging only by his interviews, I believe the BVB striker did not pay attention to the lyrics in question and only liked the song itself when deciding to post it, which was further confirmed by some reports.
It was an unfortunate incident, but one that should not spark hate or excessive criticism toward Guirassy. Despite this being speculative, he has clearly shown himself to be unaware of the situation and the meaning of the lyrics. Hopefully, Serhou will stay out of more controversies as he has been a pivotal player for BVB this season.
