Borussia Dortmund will head to TSG Hoffenheim this weekend for an important clash as the Bundesliga approaches the finish-line. Nothing less than a win will be enough to satisfy Black and Yellow fans as BVB mounts a late charge to qualify for European competition next season. Today, Niko Kovač offered multiple squad updates:
""I still have some hope for Pascal Groß, but I don't think he'll be able to play. Maxi Beier is still in pain and hasn't been able to train." "Niko Kovac
These are both notable injuries, as Maxi Beier has found favor and form under Niko Kovač. Beier was forced off in the first half against Borussia Monchengladbach and it seems this injury will keep him out of action this weekend. Pascal Groß has been a key figure in Dortmund’s midfield all season, and his stability will be missed. Perhaps he’ll be able to make a late cameo against Hoffenheim, but a ligament injury sustained against Monchengladbach will likely keep him sidelined.
While Nico Schlotterbeck’s knee injury has ended his season, Niko Kovač offered his hoped for Marcel Sabitzer, who should be available for the final matches of the season:
"“Marcel Sabitzer is making progress. I'm confident that he'll be available again after the Hoffenheim game.”"Niko Kovač
Hoffenheim, while in fifteenth place, still pose a threat to Dortmund, especially in the PreZero Arena. Hoffenheim are eight points clear of the relegation playoff, and will be looking for points to help secure their place in next season’s Bundesliga.
