Is European Qualification still possible for Borussia Dortmund?

Coming off back to back wins against Union Berlin and St. Pauli, things are looking up for Dortmund’s Bundesliga season. This marks Dortmund's first successive league wins of the season and only the third win away from home. Inconsistency has defined this Bundesliga campaign and Niko Kovač has been tasked with turning that around to give Dortmund a chance at European qualification. Is it still possible for Kovač to guide this team into Europe's premier competition for next season?

The table above shows a look into the amount of points needed to qualify for a spot in next year's European Competitions. Expected points is calculated by multiplying a team's average points per game this season by the total number of games in the season. Dortmund has scored 35 points in 24 matches, totaling 1.46 points per game. If they are to finish this season under the same rate as the previous 24 games, then they would expect to finish on 50 points. The 5 year average is displayed to show the average points total of that respective table position over the last 5 seasons.

Qualifying for the Champions League will be different this season than last, as Germany likely will not have an additional qualification spot due to Coefficient rankings. Therefore, Dortmund must finish in the top four to qualify for the competition they were finalists for in 2024. With 10 games left in the season, it is still possible to finish in one of those coveted positions. Sitting in 10th place and with a difficult schedule remaining, a top four finish will be quite the accomplishment. Of the final 10 matches, Dortmund will face 7 teams in the top half of the table, including 5 teams in the top 6. (Bayern, Leverkusen, Mainz, Leipzig, Freiburg)
