Is European Qualification still possible for Borussia Dortmund?

Coming off back to back wins against Union Berlin and St. Pauli, things are looking up for Dortmund’s Bundesliga season. This marks Dortmund's first successive league wins of the season and only the third win away from home. Inconsistency has defined this Bundesliga campaign and Niko Kovač has been tasked with turning that around to give Dortmund a chance at European qualification. Is it still possible for Kovač to guide this team into Europe's premier competition for next season?

Qualification for the Champions Leage is unlikely for next season. An improvement in form so drastic as to achieve it is in all likelihood unattainable. The goal of this squad for the remainder of this season is surely to qualify for any European Competition, even the Conference League. While many may see giving up on Champions Legaue qualification as a failure, one must be realistic. A great improvement in form is still needed for Europa League qualification and it would certainly give a boost to a team who will soon be competing for another trophy in the USA.

Looking at this season’s remaining schedule the March 15th away match to Leipzig is one that could turn around this Bundesliga campaign. Leaving Red Bull Arena with 3 points and a higher position than RB in the table will hopefully be the catalyst to a strong push for Europe. Leaving that game empty handed will surely keep Leipzig entrenched above us in the table and with quite the mountain to climb. If 6 points are not earned in the next two Bundesliga matches, Dortmund may not even be playing on Thursday nights next season.
