Match Report: Borussia Dortmund stun RB Leipzig 2-1 to ease pressure on Nuri Sahin
By Tushar Bahl
Goals from Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirassy helped Borussia Dortmund get a much-needed 2-1 win over RB Leipzig as they came from behind and pulled off an upset against the Bundesliga's most in-form team.
With pressure piling on Nuri Sahin and the injury list growing, few expected Borussia Dortmund to get the three points against RB Leipzig in Saturday evening's topspiel. But an inspired performance led by the strike duo of Maximilian Beier and Serhou Guirassy helped the Black and Yellows earn an impressive come from behind 2-1 win.
Borussia Dortmund were the better team from the outset, keeping the dangerous RB Leipzig attack at bay despite having to field two midfielders in the back four.

Maximilian Beier had the opening chance of the game as he found himself free inside the box. But he failed to direct his header on target and the chance went begging. Jamie Gittens then shot straight at the goalkeeper after more good play from Borussia Dortmund in the early stages.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s strong start, it was RB Leipzig who opened the scoring with Benjamin Sesko finding the back of the net after a wonderful back-heel from Lois Openda. The goal came against the run of play as the make-shift BVB defence was undone way too easily.
A few minutes later, Gittens went through on goal but failed to beat the goalkeeper. From the resulting corner, though, BVB finally took their chance.
Beier ended his goal drought, scoring his first goal in BVB colours, flicking home Felix Nmecha’s initial header to deservedly bring his side back on level terms.
The home side continued to create the better chances after their equaliser, with Leipzig mainly relying on counter-attacks. That also proved to be the case after the break, as Borussia Dortmund continued to cause problems to the Leipzig defence.
Nico Schlotterbeck had Borussia Dortmund’s first big chance of the second-half, but he failed to beat Péter Gulácsi from close range after a corner.
Borussia Dortmund’s pressure finally paid off in the 65th minute as Serhou Guirassy headed home to complete the comeback after getting on the end of an excellent cross from Beier.
RB Leipzig failed to mount a challenge in the late stages of the game and Borussia Dortmund managed to hang on for the win relatively easy. The win will certainly ease the pressure on Nuri Sahin and his side, who had faced a lot of criticism in recent days.
