Borussia Dortmund’s woeful away form continued as they were handed a 2-1 defeat by FC Augsburg thanks to a brace from Alexis Claude-Maurice.

After letting a two-goal lead slip against Real Madrid on Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund failed to make the most of an advantage once again on Saturday with Augsburg coming from behind to register a 2-1 win.

Pressure piling on Nuri Sahin and Borussia Dortmund after latest defeat

The defeat leaves Borussia Dortmund eight points behind Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig, the team they will face in the Bundesliga next weekend.

The result comes as the latest setback in a season that has started in disastrous fashion for Nuri Sahin and his side. Borussia Dortmund have not looked convincing in any of their games this season, and questions will no doubt soon start to be asked of the head coach, who was appointed in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund could not have asked for a better start to the game as they took the lead in just the fourth minute with Donyell Malen finding the net after some good play by Serhou Guirassy. But for the second time this week, BVB failed to hold on to a lead as Alexis Claude-Maurice took full advantage of some sloppy defending and made it 1-1 from outside the box.

To make matters worse for Borussia Dortmund, Waldemar Anton picked up an injury soon after and had to be withdrawn at half-time. With Niklas Süle also injured, he was replaced by Emre Can. And the out of form BVB captain’s poor clearance allowed Augsburg to double their lead.

It was Claude-Maurice who took advantage once again, latching onto the failed clearance attempt before curling the ball into the net.

Augsburg came close to doubling their lead on a couple of occasions but Borussia Dortmund managed to survive. The away side showed a few glimpses of their attacking quality but the Bavarians stood firm and managed to hold on for the three points.

The game also saw two highly rated youngsters make their first-team debuts for Borussia Dortmund, with Almugera Kabar and Cole Campbell both coming off the bench. The former had a nightmare debut as he was sent off after picking up two yellow cards. In addition, BVB also suffered two injuries, with Julian Ryerson and Anton joining the ever-growing injury list.
