According to Fabrizio Romano reports that contact has been made between Napoli and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Karim Adeyemi. Talks will begin with Dortmund being open to a January exit for Adeyemi.
The young German was acquired from RB Salzburg in 2022 for a fee of 30-million Euros. Eighteen at the time, Adeyemi was seen as a Wunderkind with high expectations associated with his transfer fee.
Since arriving in Dortmund, Adeyemi has been inconsistent and struggled with injuries, but when he’s in form, he’s exciting to watch. Adeyemi can dazzle with his speed, and has scored some impressive goals. Most notably, Adeyemi scored a first half hat-trick against Celtic FC in a 7-1 win in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season. In total, Adeyemi has scored 19 goals in 78 appearances in Black and Yellow
Having recently offloaded Donyell Malen, it seems doubtful Dortmund would be willing to let Karim Adeyemi go easily. Borussia Dortmund’s squad is currently thin, and losing another player without an obvious replacement lined up would seem to be ill-advised. While Adeyemi has not quite lived up to his potential, he’s still been an important part of the team, and at times this season, has looked like the 30-million Euro player fans expected.
Letting Adeyemi go when he might be entering his prime could be a tough pill to swallow for many fans. But Dortmund would doubtfully be willing to sell him without making a significant profit, and the German’s young age makes his potential high. If not Napoli, other suitors will likely seek his services in the near future.
