Niklas Süle set for months on the sidelines due to ankle injury

Borussia Dortmund are set to be without Niklas Süle for the next few months with the defender out due to an ankle injury.
Niklas Süle's injury woes continued this past weekend as he was forced off after injuring his ankle during Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The fears of it being a serious injury have come true, with the centre-back now facing months on the sidelines.
Another injury blow for Niklas Süle and Borussia Dortmund
This was confirmed by Nuri Sahin during his press conference on Tuesday ahead of Borussia Dortmund's clash against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. The issue is a repeat of the injury he suffered in October that he had only recently returned from.
It remains to be seen exactly how long Süle will be sidelined for, but Borussia Dortmund may well be forced to enter the transfer market for a new centre-back in January. Waldemar Anton is also currently injured and is unlikely to be fit again before the winter break. This leaves Nico Schlotterbeck as the only fit centre-back in the BVB first-team.
Schlotterbeck is likely to be partnered by Emre Can in central defence in the coming games, and the BVB captain will have the opportunity to stake a claim to reclaim his place in the regular starting XI.
As for Niklas Süle, his long-term future at Borussia Dortmund remains uncertain with just 18 months left on his current contract. The 29 year old joined the Black and Yellows on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in 2022 and has made a total of 82 appearances for the club.
