Borussia Dortmund are gearing up for a crucial clash with last season’s Bundesliga Champions, Bayer Leverkusen in what will be considered yet another ‘final’ by BVB’s standards, as a win will be all but necessary to keep hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification alive. But Leverkusen are a fierce opponent, and despite Dortmund’s good run of form, the away match won’t be easy.

Ahead of the match, Borussia Dortmund trainer, Niko Kovač offered his thoughts to the media:

"“It won't be easy in Leverkusen, but they know we've made progress in recent weeks. We need a good day, but if we perform to our maximum, I believe we have the ability to win the game. I'm pleased that we've been so successful in recent weeks. It would be a fantastic achievement if we managed to move from 11th place to 4th place." "

Since taking over, Niko Kovač has stabilized Borussia Dortmund, and guided them on a strong run of form. They’ve won five of their last six league matches, with one draw coming away at Bayern Munich. If Nico Kovač manages to qualify Dortmund’s squad for Champions League by the final matchday, then his appointment as manager will certainly be seen as successful.

"“We know Bayer Leverkusen's qualities, but we have our own plans and we want to win the game," "

BVB lost their home meeting against Leverkusen 2-3, their first match back from the winter break. On that occasion, the Black and Yellows were down by three before the thirtieth minute. Niko Kovač will be looking for a better result than his predecessor.
