Many believed that a trip to Manchester City would offer Borussia Dortmund the toughest test of the season so far. However, such a comprehensive loss wasn’t on many people’s minds. In the wake of the 4-1 loss to Pep Guardiola’s side, there were many dissatisfied people around the club.

A few days later, Dortmund threw away a lead in the last minutes of the game away to Hamburg. This brought even more murmurs around the club. There have even been rumors of dissatisfaction with the work Niko Kovac has done.

These are indications of a tough time for the Black and Yellows, even though many believe it won’t be anything other than a temporary issue. The club has been in this situation before with Edin Terzic and Nuri Sahin.

In the case of Terzic, the club was close to making history by winning the league and also the Champions League a year later. Despite getting so close, inconsistent results ultimately became his undoing.

Sahin also had a good start to his coaching role at BVB, but later on, bad results piled up, costing him his job and paving the way for Kovac.

Now, Kovac needs to be careful that the results don’t get away and become a reason for an all-out crisis at the club.

What has mostly been forwarded as criticism of Kovac is the team’s tendency not to be on the front foot and go all out for wins. There seems to be caution in the way the team approaches games and this hasn’t gone well with most of the fans of the club.

In order to keep the management and fans happy the team needs to not only get the desired results but also play exciting football.

Lars Ricken, who is the managing director of the club, has stated that playing many games away from home was one of the reasons for the club’s struggles. But the fans will be demanding a whole lot from the club from what they have shown in the past couple of games.
