Nuri Sahin has hailed Borussia Dortmund's start to their Champions League campaign after they made it four wins out of five in the competition.
Borussia Dortmund continued their impressive run of form in the Champions League on Wednesday evening by comfortably dispatching Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 away from home. Goals from Jamie Gittens, Ramy Bensebaini, and Serhou Guirassy gave the Black and Yellows all three points, helping them move up to fourth place in the CL standings in the process.
Despite their struggles and lack of consistency in domestic competitions, Borussia Dortmund have looked very much at home on the Champions League stage this season. Even in their 5-2 defeat away to reigning champions Real Madrid, BVB held a two goal lead after a stunning first-half display.
Borussia Dortmund on track for Champions League knockout stage qualification
And Nuri Sahin reflected on the start last year's finalists have enjoyed to their Champions League campaign this season. "We've now had two really good games and remained patient against an extremely deep-lying opponent. The boys held their positions, moved the ball well and deserved the win," Sahin told DAZN.
"Apart from two counter-attacks, we didn't give up anything. I'm very happy and hope that Julian Brandt's injury isn't that bad. We can talk about the Bundesliga when the time comes. First of all, I'm happy that we've established ourselves at the top of the Champions League. Five games, 12 points - that's something to be proud of."
Borussia Dortmund will fancy their chances of finishing in the top eight of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. They will next be in action against FC Barcelona, and will then face Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk after the winter break. Even two wins and a defeat could well be enough for BVB to avoid having to go through to knockout round play-offs.
