Nuri Sahin's successor reports heat up ahead of Bologna clash

SkySports reported that Erik ten Haag is still a name discussed internally at BVB if Sahin were eventually sacked. Other names are also speculated as the 36-year-old manager looks for a breath of fresh air against Bologna.

Following Lars Ricken's warning statement to Nuri Sahin ahead of the Champions League matchup against Bologna, more reports erupted regarding a possible replacement for the current manager. The young Turkish coach has been in the hot seat lately due to a poor start to 2025, with three losses in consecutive matches.

The most famous name recently speculated is Erik ten Haag, former Manchester United manager. As reported by RNB, Erik ten Haag's name has been discarded as an option if Sahin's tenure were to be over. Moreover, the outlet also cited Roger Schmidt, former Benfica boss, as an alternative in the list as Dortmund praises for a German-speaking profile.

However, according to sources at SkySports, Erik ten Haag remains a candidate in case Sahin is dismissed. As journalists Patrick Berger and Florian Plettenberg reported, the Dutch manager has exchanged few contacts with the Dortmund hierarchy and would prefer a long-term project instead of a "short-term solution." Before anything can be signed, a severance pay should also be settled with Erik's former club, Man United.

Other names like Nico Kovac and Sandro Wagner, previously speculated, are also a topic in German news. With the board seemingly divided in regard to Sahin, the former Dortmund legend has a chance to prove himself against Bologna on Tuesday. It could be his last shot to maintain his job as a BVB manager.
