Borussia Dortmund has officially announced the loan of Aaron Anselmino from Chelsea. Anselmino moves to Germany on a one-year deal, with Dortmund not having an option to buy.

According to Sky Sports’ Patrick Berger, Anselmino’s loan deal is completely free. BVB will only pay his salary before he returns to the London club after June 30, 2026.

Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken explained in the club’s press release that injuries to Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Sule and Emre Can prompted the deal. The club began its Bundesliga campaign with a 3-3 draw against St. Pauli. Defender Filippo Mane, who was making his league debut, was sent off in the 85th minute, with St. Pauli scoring two goals to earn the well-deserved draw.

"Due to the injuries to Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Niklas Süle, we were forced to make adjustments at center-back. Aaron Anselmino has already gained first-league experience in his home country and has great potential. It was no coincidence that Chelsea FC signed him to an extremely long-term contract last summer."

Borussia Dortmund signed yet another Chelsea prodigy

Anselmino signed for Chelsea from Boca Juniors last season for a reported £15.6 million transfer fee. He didn’t join The Blues immediately and remained in Argentina for a 12-month loan deal. He made 13 appearances for Boca without scoring a goal.

The 20-year-old finally made his debut for Chelsea at the Club World Cup in June, coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of their Round of 16 match against Benfica. He won his first trophy after Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain to win the 2025 Club World Cup.

"I'm really looking forward to Borussia Dortmund and will give my all to be successful with this great club and its fantastic fans."

The young center-back is set to wear the No. 28 jersey. He joins Dortmund after teammate Carney Chukwuemeka completed his reported £24 million move, as per BBC.
