Good squad to scheme fit

If Sebastian Hoeneß eventually becomes the manager of Borussia Dortmund, his transition will be smoother than that of other candidates. The scheme fits with the squad today, and a few additional signings would be enough for Hoeneß to implement his style at Signal Iduna Park.
First, his striking duo would be already in place, as Guirassy and Beier complement each other pretty well. With Guirassy’s OOP intelligence combined with Beier’s engine and tactical discipline, Hoeneß could already start working with a dream partnership in attack.
The defensive line is also another strong unit, at least with all the starting-caliber center-backs available for selection. As Hoeneß prefers defenders with good ball-playing ability, Nico Schlotterbeck and his former Stuttgart man Waldemar Anton are the perfect prototypes for that role. With Hoeneß's scheme needing fullbacks who can play on the inside and outside of the attacking phase, Yan Couto could also have a new life at Dortmund with Hoeneß in charge.
The midfield and goalkeeper positions could be potential question marks. Although Kobel is an excellent shot-stopper, he has struggled with the ball on his feet, which is a prerequisite for a Hoeneß goalie. While the midfield has good ball-carriers, like Nmecha and Brandt, and pacey, line-breaking extremes, like Gittens and Adeyemi, the need for ball-winning and physically strong options in the middle would be imperative.
Despite the evident need for depth in Dortmund's current squad — an issue that transcends Hoeneß's potential signing — this group of players includes fascinating, Bundesliga-proven players who could be good fits for his scheme.
