Opinion: Sahin became a problem, but is he the only one?

Nuri Sahin has struggled during his tenure as BVB manager, and Tuesday's match against Bologna could be his last. However, is he solely responsible for Dortmund's current downfall?

Sahin was not ready. In fact, he still doesn't look prepared for the task ahead of him.

I have to admit that I was excited to see what Sahin could bring to the table. After watching interviews and interesting pointers on how he sees football, I got a sense of curiosity to discover what manager he could become. The board probably aimed for the new Xabi Alonso — which was a long shot — but they hit a good prospect with great ideas that still need time to be tailored.

In the end, I still believe Sahin can become a great manager someday, as he has shown a great understanding of tactics. If he goes to the right environment, he might develop with experience and make many mistakes — mistakes that Borussia cannot afford anymore. In order to fix them, it all needs to start within the club's structure and values.

Firing the manager will not fix all the problems; it is just the tip of a (huge) iceberg. Independently of what happens following the Bologna match, the club's processes and football decisions need to be urgently reviewed, so that Black-and-Yellows fans can (maybe) hope for better days.
