Pascal Groß: Borussia Dortmund lucky to have a player like Nico Schlotterbeck
By Tushar Bahl
Pascal Groß is backing Nico Schlotterbeck to turn things around at Borussia Dortmund amid the centre-back's recent struggles for form.
Nico Schlotterbeck is regarded as one of Borussia Dortmund's most important players, and has been a key part of the team since joining the club from SC Freiburg in 2022. The 24 year old is currently going through a rough patch of form. But Pascal Groß is confident that Schlotterbeck will turn things around in the near future.
"He has everything he needs to be a top player in his position," Pascal Groß said in an interview with WAZ. "He has a top mentality, always wants to win, always give his best and looks to improve. When he's on the pitch, he's an absolute fighter, but he has other qualities too - whether it's building up play or tackling. These are players who make us better as a team. BVB are lucky to have him."
Nico Schlotterbeck hoping to overcome dip in form at Borussia Dortmund
Nico Schlotterbeck has had a difficult few games in the Bundesliga and also gave away a penalty during the 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin last weekend. The Germany international will hope to use the international break to turn the tide and find some form before returning to Borussia Dortmund.
Many expected Schlotterbeck to become the leader of the Borussia Dortmund defence following the departure of Mats Hummels (now at AS Roma) at the end of last season. And while he is currently going through a dip in form, he remains one of the most talented young defenders in Europe.
When Schlotterbeck is on his game, Borussia Dortmund play more free-flowing football while looking more solid in defence. And fans will certainly hope to see him back to his dominant best in the near future.
