Since the turn of the century, Borussia Dortmund has been home to some truly incredible players. Unfortunately for BVB fans, though, the club has become renowned for being a selling club, particularly feeding their German rivals. With that being said, here is a look back at the 3 players who turned their backs on Borussia Dortmund.

1. Mario Götze

Coming through the youth academy, Mario Götze's departure in 2013 is one which hurt the Borussia Dortmund fans the most. Götze moved to Bayern Munich, with the transfer being announced before the two sides eventually met in the Champions League final.

Mario Götze showed plenty of promise as a young player but unfortunately, it seemed that moving to BVB's Bundesliga rivals was the catalyst for his downfall as a player.

The Germany international has since returned to Dortmund for a second stint, but it was nowhere near as successful as his first, since Dortmund went through a transitional period at this time, with no player managing to impress. Götze also spoke about this second stint, claiming it was his one career regret. In my opinion, his regret should have been leaving Dortmund in the first place.
