3. Christoph Metzelder

Once known as one of the most promising players to ever be produced in Germany, Christoph Metzelder spent his early years at Borussia Dortmund. In fairness, he was an exceptional player in yellow and black and was truly committed to the cause.

He played during an era where many of the club legends were at the top of the dressing room hierarchy, so as a young player he was disciplined by the best authority.

However, in the end, Real Madrid's calls proved too difficult for Metzelder to deny. It wasn't his move to Madrid which left a bitter taste in the mouth of Dortmund fans but instead, it was a later decision made by Metzelder which disappointed them.

He signed for Schalke 04 in a free transfer, which took many by surprise given the fact he donned the Dortmund jersey just a few years previously. Ultimately, his time at Schalke was wrecked by injuries, a telling tale of his career after Dortmund, but it was certainly a courageous move to join Dortmund's biggest rivals.
