4. Christian Pulisic (€64m profit)

Borussia Dortmund are renowned for developing some of the best talents in the world but none received as much worldwide acclaim as Christian Pulisic. Most notably, he is one of the finest American players to grace the 21st century, so when he represented BVB, he was bound to have many eager eyes on him from American soccer fans.

Christian Pulisic signed for Borussia Dortmund from PA Classics on a free transfer. While Dortmund would have to pay Pulisic's wages, they saved a lot of money in the way of a transfer fee. Pulisic played for Borussia Dortmund and its academy for four years (including half a season on loan at BVB).

In 2019, Christian Pulisic was sold to Chelsea for a transfer fee of €64m, paid to Borussia Dortmund. Pulisic set a high pedigree for his career while playing for Borussia Dortmund and considering he was signed on a free transfer, he generated €64m in profit for the German club. Not bad going!
