1. Ousmane Dembele (€135m)

Ousmane Dembele is not the most widely remembered Borussia Dortmund player of all-time but he is their finest example of smart business. The Frenchman was signed by Borussia Dortmund in 2016 for €35m.

After being signed, Ousmane Dembele spent one year developing with Borussia Dortmund and he looked like a promising young player, taking the world by storm. So much so, that he became of interest to Barcelona, who made an incredible €135m investment in Dembele.

This meant that in just one year, Borussia Dortmund secured themselves a tidy profit of €100m on the player. Since being sold in 2017, he remains the most expensive Borussia Dortmund sale of all-time and interestingly, he is the player who Dortmund made the most amount of profit on. At €100m profit, that's going to take some beating.
