5. Karim Adeyemi, Donyell Malen, Andre Schurrle, Felix Nmecha (€30m)
Interestingly, FOUR players have ranked fifth highest, since the fee paid for Karim Adeyemi, Donyell Malen, Andre Schurrle and Felix Nmecha came to €30m each. The most recent of those signings being Felix Nmecha, who signed from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg at the start of the current season (2023/24).
Given the size of Borussia Dortmund, signing players for €30m is ultimately risk-free, but they try to avoid going over this fee unless absolutely unnecessary.
Currently, three players who cost Dortmund €30m are still at the club, with Andre Schurrle being the only exception. Schurrle retired at Dortmund in 2020 but in truth, his contract was terminated before he made the decision.
