It is quite fitting that Dortmund's most expensive signing of all-time went on to be their most expensive sale of all-time. If this does not personify the great business model at Dortmund, then I don't know what will. It is also crazy to consider that Dembele was signed from Rennes in 2016 and yet this record is yet to be beaten.

Refusal to spend big money can be seen as a good or bad thing but one thing's for sure, the current crop of players at Dortmund are not bad in the slightest, despite being budget-friendly.

Dembele spent just one season at BVB but it was a pretty incredible season as he lifted the DFB-Pokal and scored eight goals and providing 18 assists across all competitions. It was this season which saw him garner attention from Barcelona, where he spent the rest of his career since 2023, then signing for Paris Saint-Germain.
