5. Felipe Santana

Felipe Santana is one of the less-recognised Borussia Dortmund players in this list but he is one of the earlier examples of a player who struggled after leaving BVB.

Certainly, Borussia Dortmund fans of the time period will remember Felipe Santana for all the wrong reasons. Despite never being a sure-starter for the club, he spent five years as an excellent squad player, making 95 Bundesliga appearances. His time ended sourly though as he seeked more game-time, which he didn't get.

Felipe Santana infamously joined bitter rivals Schalke, where he suffered the same fate as he did at Borussia Dortmund by not playing many minutes. He was in and out of the first-team there and just as he managed to get a consecutive run of starts, his time became plagued by injury.

Santana had plenty to say about Jurgen Klopp but they were not compliments. Rightly or wrongly. he critiqued Jurgen Klopp, even calling the Dortmund legend "stupid". Safe to say, he won't be invited to any BVB reunion in the future.
