B-V-Briefing - A weekly roundup of all things Borussia Dortmund
By Joseph Meyer
Off the pitch, more rumors have surfaced regarding club legends, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus. It has been reported that Reus will open contract talks with Borussia Dortmund at the end of April, but the club is not expected to offer him an extension at this time.
While BVB do seem to desire the services of Mats Hummels for one more year, the veteran German defender seems to have fallen out with Edin Terzic and appears to be weighing his other options. Should either or both of these players retire outside of Borussia Dortmund, it would be utterly devastating to the fan base.
After RB Leipzig failed to advance in the Champions League last week, Borussia Dortmund also qualified for the recently revamped Club World Cup, taking place in the United States in summer 2025.
The expanded tournament will be something of a trial run for USA's hosting of the 2026 World Cup (with Mexico and Canada). BVB are the second German team to qualify after Bayern Munich. The new qualifying criteria is based on numerous performance-related data over a four-season period.
