According to reports, Borussia Dortmund could possibly look to the South American market for talent in the not so distant future with Colombian youngster Oscar Perea of Atlético Nacional being linked as a possible transfer target. Perea has impressed for Atlético Nacional, and his current contract situation makes him an interesting target for the club to look into.

Perea is currently under contract with Atlético Nacional until the end of the year, which makes a transfer very affordable for most of the interested parties. Dortmund would also face competition from the likes of VFB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, but there are also clubs in Spain, England and  France that are looking to throw their hat in the race for the player's signature.

Perea has generally impressed with his ball control, pace and physicality despite only being 18 years old. This season, he currently has 5 goals and 1 assist across 35 games in the Colombian top flight, and a further two goals in the Copa Colombia.

While it still remains to be seen whether Dortmund will truly look to make a concrete bid, Dortmund’s interest in talents from South America had been rather scant over the last few years, which woukld make it feel like a step in the right direction, if true. The market itself remains rather untapped by the club, which seems like a detriment to the club’s prospective talent pool.

Dortmund still have enough players to fill the wide positions, with Jadon Sancho (loan), Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Karim Adeyemi and Donyell Malen all contracted to the club. This summer will bring their depth into question particularly if the club does not attempt to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal and if Donyell Malen departs. These changes in personnel may open the club up to seeking additional attacking depth, which is a role Perea could possibly fill.
