Borussia Dortmund look set to bolster their right-back ranks, with the transfer of Manchester City youngster Yan Couto said to be on the verge of completion.

Yan Couto emerged as Borussia Dortmund's top target for the right-back spot, and the transfer is expected to get over the line in the coming days. According to Sky Sport, the Black and Yellows are ready to pay a fee in the region of 20 million euros plus five million euros in bonus payments for the Brazil international.

Borussia Dortmund eyeing initial loan deal for Yan Couto

The report adds that Borussia Dortmund want to sign Couto on an initial loan deal with the obligation to make the signing permanent at the end of the season. Manchester City would prefer to part ways with the 22 year old on a permanent transfer, and negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs.

Couto has yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester City, but is coming off an excellent loan spell for Girona. In 39 appearances across all competitions last season, the full-back scored two goals and assisted a further ten. His performances helped Girona finish third in La Liga and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

If his transfer to Borussia Dortmund goes through, Couto would be competing with Julian Ryerson for a spot in the starting XI at right-back. Ryerson was BVB's first-choice right-back last season, and is also capable of playing on the opposite flank. Couto is a more attack-minded player and could prove to be a very exciting signing for Nuri Sahin's side.
